David Behan

Mechanical Engineer and Founding Director
Chartered Engineer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)

David is an experienced mechanical engineer, business leader and founding director having almost 20 years experience within the industry among many different sectors including science and research, student residential, higher education, independent schools, commercial, historic buildings, leisure, retail, industrial and residential.

David has been a business leader in a dynamic, growing and innovative engineering consultancy and performed as both part of a wider design team, and as a project lead across multiple projects. David’s approach to leadership is to be supportive and collaborative and to encourage innovation and a commitment to high quality service.

David’s approach to projects and clients is based on forming strong working relationships and becoming a trusted advisor based on extensive experience and knowledge. David has a passion for complex engineering systems and providing low energy solutions.

David has led engineering teams on projects ranging from £1m to £75m. These projects have included both the traditional form of contract as well as design & build procurement.

David Harris

David is an experienced electrical engineer, and founding director, having over 20 years’ experience within the industry among many different sectors including leisure, retail, education, industrial and residential.

David has performed as both part of a wider design team, and as a project lead across multiple projects.

David’s approach to projects is to be open and collaborative to new ideas and approaches, and to form strong working relationships with fellow design team members.

David has an eye for detail, and enjoys problem solving and has a keen interest in sustainable solutions for buildings.David has led and been part projects ranging in value up to £30m. These projects have included both the traditional form of contract as well as design & build procurement and are across a myriad of sectors.

Richard Turner

Sustainability Engineer and Founding Director

Richard is an experienced Director with a background and focus on building sustainability and low energy design principles. He has an active involvement in projects and oversees the delivery of schemes across multiple sectors. This often involves working in a client liaison role, helping to run briefing and stakeholder consultation sessions where aspiration targets for projects are set during the early stages of scheme design.

Richard has a strong focus on specialist areas such as sustainability, building physics, BIM, digital engineering and how these disciplines interface. Richard has played a key role as part of senior management teams often focussing on the development and growth of specialist teams.

Richard has a wide range of project experience including Education, Commercial, Sports and Leisure, Heritage, and Residential. A strong focus is within the independent and higher education sectors leading a mix of projects including teaching accommodation, performing arts spaces, student accommodation and site infrastructure / masterplanning.

Steve Phillips

Electrical Engineer and Associate

Steve is an experienced electrical engineer, and Associate, having over 24 years’ experience within the industry among many differing sectors including science and research, student residential, higher education, health care, independent schools, historic buildings, and residential schemes across various procurement routes.

Steve has performed as both part of a wider design team, and as a project lead including fulfilling the role of contract administrator for electrical bias projects. He enjoys working closely with our design collaborators to ensure the highest standard and design solutions are achieved with a high attention to detail.

Steve has a broad knowledge of electrical systems required for buildings and continually looks to develop new ideas and strategies to ensure the highest standards and design techniques are utilised within both modern and heritage settings.

Daniel Harrison

Mechanical Engineer and Associate

Daniel is a chartered mechanical engineer and Associate with experience across a wide range of market sectors including science & research, healthcare, higher education, commercial, residential and historical buildings.

Daniel shares a passion and commitment to sustainable design solutions and enjoys the innovation and problem solving that comes with this. His involvement on projects of various scales has also provided him with a high level of proficiency using BIM and other modelling software.

Daniel’s collaborative and analytical approach to projects helps to build strong working relationships and respond to the specific needs of clients and construction industry professionals, ensuring that every option has been considered and the best solution identified.

Lindsey Arnott

Senior Sustainability Engineer
‘Low Carbon Energy Assessor’ (CIBSE) and ‘On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor’ (Stroma).

Lindsey is a Senior Sustainability Engineer involved in the design of high-quality, sustainable buildings which benefit the environment and their occupants. She believes that excellence in sustainable design improves the health and wellbeing of occupants, as well as reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Lindsey has experience working on projects in various market sectors such as education (teaching and accommodation), healthcare, hospitality, commercial and residential developments. She enjoys keeping up with industry developments and seeks out new ways of thinking and clever solutions to problems.

Lindsey’s involvement in a wide range of projects means she is highly experienced in using IES dynamic building modelling software for energy calculations and thermal comfort assessments. Her knowledge of Passivhaus principles and experience with low/zero carbon technologies assists with the evaluation of energy strategies against performance requirements.

Jeremy Denton

Electrical Engineer and Senior Associate

Jeremy is an electrical engineerwith over 30 years’ experience within the industry. He leads and has an active design role among a variety of projects and sectors including student residential, higher education, health care, independent schools, historic buildings and residential schemes. Jeremy is well versed in procurement options and provides input and support across all stages of a project.

As a Senior Associate, he enjoys working closely with our design collaborators to ensure the highest standard and design solutions are achieved. He strives to continually provide all clients with a high level of service.

Jeremyhas a broad knowledge of the construction process, with an extensive background in contracting which helps ensure that the highest standards and design techniques are utilised within both modern and heritage settings.

Ben Wolstenholme

Ben is an Incorporated Engineer with broad experience across multiple sectors. He specialises in the highly technical and energy-intensive buildings required by the life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and higher education sectors.

Ben’s collaborative and analytical approach helps him build strong relationships with clients and colleagues, ensuring that all options are considered, and the best solutions identified.

He is dedicated to delivering high quality outputs and contributing to best practice working groups, both within his team and externally. He is committed to adopting established practices while also challenging them to find innovative engineering solutions.

Ben brings a considered and collaborative approach to his projects. Ben’s dedication to sustainable design solutions, precision, and analytical nature makes him a valuable team member for any project.

Tom Buckingham

Mechanical Engineer
MEng

Tom is a mechanical engineer with experience in science and research, higher education, heritage, and residential buildings. As well as his experience in highly technical buildings, Tom has been leading projects that focus on deep retrofit and heat decarbonisation.

He has developed excellent knowledge and skills in a range of 3D modelling tools including Revit, CAD, IES and other analysis packages. He also uses these tools for visualisation and co-ordination with other design disciplines and has a key role in the development of internal best practice approaches.

Tom is always looking at modern methods of engineering and aims to implement new technologies to help create excellent, low energy and low-carbon buildings. This includes closer monitoring and operation post completion.

Georgia Holgate

Georgia is an electrical engineer with a passion for lighting design, innovation, and sustainable design processes. She has experience working on projects in various market sectors such as student residential, independent schools, commercial and residential developments.

Georgia enjoys working with design teams to identify and develop solutions that meet the distinct demands and specifications of each new project. She closely co-ordinates with other design disciplines and is considered in her approach.

Georgia is always enthusiastic and willing to learn new software and tools to improve efficiency and the consistency of technical outputs.

Gemma Rolls

Office Manager & Finance Co-ordinator

Gemma is an experienced office manager and closely supports with the day-to-day operation of our Oxfordshire office.

Gemma has a supporting role to the senior management team and provides strategic input across key areas of the business. This ranges from finance and invoicing, marketing, bid production and human resources. She works closely alongside our financial controller Veronica, aided by her background in commercial banking.

Gemma’s enthusiasm and willingness shines throughout the office and she is always on hand to support the team and our clients needs. She is highly organised and has played a key role in refining our internal procedures and workflows.

Daniel Glyde

Daniel is a mechanical engineer with a commitment to innovation and sustainable design processes. He has experience across sectors such as science and research, student residential, independent schools, heritage and residential buildings.

Daniel enjoys working collaboratively with design teams to identify and develop solutions to suit the demands of each project. He has developed skills in 3D modelling tools such as Revit and other modelling analysis packages. He uses these tools to enable visualisation and co-ordination with other design disciplines.

Dan is enthusiastic in evaluating and implementing new technologies to help create sustainable, low energy and low-carbon buildings.

Albie Welch

Albie has been in the industry for over 10 years, working across a wide range of sectors including science and research, commercial, higher education, healthcare, schools, historic buildings, high-end residential and MOD.

Albie's exposure across sectors has enabled him to build a high level ofexperience in BIM and a range model authoring software. Albie is an ISO19650 professional which reflects his knowledge and capability in BIM and information management.

Albie holds a key role in etch's BIM development and is passionate about innovation, collaboration and development. He applies these skills to the day-to-day operations of etch, along with the problem-solving challenges that come with projects and new innovation.

James Hazell

Senior Electrical Engineer

James is a senior electrical engineer with 9 years’ experience within the building services industry. James has extensive experience working on listed and heritage buildings, high-end residential housing, student accommodation, multi residential and commercial projects.

James is always eager to undertake a lead role on projects alongside the wider design team to achieve high standards and precise attention to detail.

James is passionate about consistently, developing new design strategies and techniques to suit different building functions and usage. James, along with the design team achieve this by working collaboratively together to find the right design approach that best suits the project.

Barbara Sledz

Graduate Engineer

Barbara is a graduate engineer with a strong passion for sustainability and the built environment. Barbara has a comprehensive understanding of both engineering and architectural design following the completion of academic studies.

Barbara has gained experience and detailed knowledge in social housing refurbishment, deep retrofit and heat decarbonisation via University and placement schemes. They are dedicated to contributing their skills to make a meaningful impact in the field across all areas of design.

Barbara is proficient in tools such as IES VE, Revit and AutoCAD and is always excited to learn new skills. These skills are continually applied to a growing and varied range of projects within etch.
