Maria Degetau

Sustainability Graduate
MArch, MSc in environmental Design

Maria is a passionate sustainability engineer dedicated to improving the environmental performance of buildings through data-driven design and sustainable strategies.Maria originally trained as an architect and has over 6 years’ experience within the built environment, specialising in passive design strategies and optimising low carbon materials for a more resilient future.

At etch,Maria applies her expertise in building physics, life cycle analysis, and passive design to enhance the performance of buildings, ensuring compliance with UK sustainability standards across both new-build and retrofit schemes. She has worked on a variety of projects including commercial, community, residential and education buildings. Maria has also been involved with overseas projects, advocating for social sustainable design to help bridge the inequality gap, resource security and community centre wellbeing in developing regions.

With experience in computational energy modelling, climate resilience strategies, and whole-life carbon assessments, she helps design teams minimise the environmental impact while maximising efficiency.

Maria is deeply committed to pushing sustainability standards forward to achieve a net-zero future. She is particularly interested in passive design strategies and innovative low-carbon materials that create resilient, high-performance buildings while enhancing occupant well-being.
