Alex Bunn
Alex is a Chartered engineer with over 10 years’ of experience across building services and sustainability consultancy. Prior to specialising in building performance and low energy design, Alex was a mechanical engineer where he led and provided engineering support across all areas of mechanical design. His background in mechanical engineering, particularly modelling for Part L compliance, has given him a strong technical foundation which he now applies to the delivery of passive design strategies and low carbon solutions.
Since qualifying as a Certified Passivhaus Consultant in 2021, Alex has been instrumental in the design and delivery of high-performance buildings, most notably leading the energy strategy on the UK’s largest certified Passivhaus development. He has developed and implemented energy and comfort strategies using advanced building physics techniques including thermal modelling, daylight analysis, and thermal bridge assessments.
Alex works across a diverse range of project types, from sensitive historic retrofits to new-build developments, supporting clients in navigating the technical and planning challenges of decarbonisation. He is experienced in producing Sustainability Statements, Whole Life Carbon Assessments and Circular Economy Statements with design teams to embed passive design, circular design thinking, material efficiency, and end-of-life reuse into projects from the outset.
In addition to his technical role, Alex has experience supporting projects through the BSRIA Soft Landings process – ensuring sustainability ambitions remain intact from early design through to post-occupancy evaluation. His work is defined by a collaborative and analytical approach, combining clear communication with rigorous technical analysis to deliver buildings that perform as intended.
